What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate marketing is a common practice among independent publications. When we link to a product on a retailer's website and you make a purchase through that link, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale — typically 2–5% — at no additional cost to you. This is how many independent websites fund their operations without relying on manufacturer advertising.

Our Affiliate Relationships

PrintReview participates in affiliate programs operated by major retail platforms. These are general retail affiliate programs — not manufacturer programs. This means our affiliate commission rate is identical regardless of which printer brand you buy. We have no financial incentive to recommend one brand over another.

We do not participate in affiliate programs operated directly by printer manufacturers such as HP, Canon, Epson, Brother, or others. We do not receive manufacturer-specific incentives, bonus commissions, or performance bonuses tied to any particular brand's sales.

How Affiliate Income Is Used

Affiliate commissions help fund the cost of purchasing printers for testing, operating our test lab, and paying our editorial team. Without this income, we would be unable to maintain the independence of our operation. We do not rely on manufacturer advertising, which could create conflicts of interest.

FTC Compliance

In accordance with Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines on endorsements and testimonials, we disclose our affiliate relationships clearly. Wherever affiliate links appear on this site, they are identified either through this disclosure page or through inline disclosures on individual articles and reviews.

Our editorial decisions — including which products we review, how we score them, and what we recommend — are never made based on affiliate commission potential. A product that earns us a higher commission will not receive a higher score or a more prominent recommendation because of that fact.

Links to retailer product pages on this site may be affiliate links. We do not individually label every affiliate link with a visual indicator, but this disclosure covers all outbound purchase links on the site. If you prefer not to use affiliate links, you can navigate directly to the retailer's website by searching for the product name.
